Castro Prieto
Juan Manuel Castro Prieto came to photography in the 1970s as a self-taught enthusiast. Influenced by Gabriel Cualladó and Paco Gómez, whom he met at the Real Sociedad Fotográfica of Madrid, his hard work and unrelenting focus has produced an unmistakable style, confirming him as a virtuoso dominating all the subtleties of plate-camera composition and laboratory developing. His perfectly composed photography is often punctuated by disturbing nuances delivered by his mastery of light combined with very precise focal length. His prints on barium paper, some of which are very large formats for himself or other renowned Spanish photographers, are exceptional works. As are his inkjet prints, to which he began adding colour as our new century dawned.

His personal work has been honored with several awards, highlighting the Cesar Vallejo of Peru, the prize of PhotoEspaña Bartolomé Ros to his career as an author in 2002 and the one from the Community of Madrid that gave rise to an exhibition and subsequent publication of the book with same title "Strangers", this work runs twenty years of the most intimate territory of Juan Manuel Castro Prieto. Other outstanding works are: "Waiting for Cargo" and La Seda Rota "in 2005; "Ethiopia" (2009); a book about the city of Sète "Eden" (2010); the exhibition and the book "Martin Chambi-Peru-Castro Prieto" (2011); or the commission to illustrate "Blood Wedding" by Federico Garcia Lorca (2011)
