Esther Pizarro
The interest in the city and how the human being moves, perceives and identifies him or herself in urban areas is the epicenter of Esther Pizarro`s artistic research.Mobility maps, cognitive cartographies, topography imagined, architectural prosthesis that colonize everyday objects are some of the series in which this artist has been working in the past fifteen years. In a kind of conceptual zoom, Pizarro has been converging over the years from a territorial perspective in the great metropolis of Los Angeles, to a more urban and archaeological in Rome, stopping at the impossible architectures in Paris and then reflect on cartographic models will derive an understanding of the body as landscape and as topography. An attention call to the peri-urban areas, abandoned after its huge industrial wear, to the circulatory knots understood as rhizomes and to deposits as spatial containers and from its own vision of the city. The city understood as a living organism, changing and evolving constantly, but at the same time, the city lived, experienced through the body,throught mobility maps, anonymous cartographies that indicate hidden paths, invisible but existing, routes that thousands of anonymous beings performed each day.

Esther Pizarro (Madrid, 1967) graduated in Fine Arts at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and obtained a PhD in 1995. She completed her academical training with a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship that leads her to reside in the United States for two years. Scholarship from various institutions including: The Pollock-Krasner Foundation of New York, Casa de Velázquez, Madrid; Generation Program Caja de Madrid, Academia de España in Rome, Colegio de España in Paris. She has received several awards and prizes among which include: Ayuda a la Producción en Artes Plásticas de la Comunidad de Madrid, Premio Ojo Crítico de Radio Nacional de España, Pámpana de Oro at LXI Exposición Nacional de Artes Plásticas de Valdepeñas, Ciudad Real. She has exhibited his work at the Raquel Ponce Gallery, Madrid; Centro de Arte Tomás y Valiente, Fuenlabrada; Antonio Prates Gallery, Lisbon, Portugal; Círculo de Bellas Artes, Madrid; Manuel Ojeda Gallery, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; I Biennial South of Panama; Venice Architecture Biennale, Pavilion of Spain, Venice, Italy; Spain Cultural Center in Lima, Peru; Shanghai World Expo Exhibition, China; Expo Zaragoza,
among others.
